Marriott International signs agreement with Riva's Hotels & Resorts „MARRIOTT HOTELS” brand in Croatia
 
Marriott International announced on January 27, 2022 that it has signed an agreement with Riva's Hotels & Resorts to acquire the flagship „core” brand of the company's portfolio of 30 hotel brands, the Marriott Hotels imports into Croatia. The hotel project to join the Marriott Hotels brand, international hotel consultancy and legal advice complex professional activities supported by Moore Hungary. The newly built hotel on the popular Opatija Riviera, Icici, will be located in the beautiful natural and built environment of the Istria Peninsula, an increasingly popular international travel destination. Currently under construction, the property is expected to open in 2024.

Expected to have 187 guest rooms Opatija Marriott Hotel for leisure and business travellers alike. All guest rooms are planned to have terraces, and seven two-bedroom villas are planned to cater for families and groups. Leisure facilities include two outdoor and indoor pools, a fitness centre and spa. The hotel also plans five restaurants and bars, including a pool bar. The brand features „Greatroom lobby” will serve as a daytime community centre for guests and local residents. More than 430 square metres of modern meeting space is expected to be available for business travellers and group meetings.



The town of Opatija is a well-known resort, dating back to the 19th century. Thanks to its favourable location, it is easily accessible from the capital of Croatia, regional towns and cities, as well as from Italy, Austria, Hungary and Germany. Rijeka airport is just 45 minutes away and all major destinations in the area are easily accessible by road. The neighbouring city of Rijeka is the main economic, educational and cultural centre of the region, serving also as a maritime centre with a developed port, shipbuilding capacity and tourist power. Tourist attractions within easy reach of the project site include Motovun, a historic hilltop town, the Ucka Nature Park and the historic amphitheatre of Pula.

The Opatija Marriott Hotel is expected to join Marriott International's existing portfolio in key tourist and business destinations in Croatia, which includes the Westin Hotel and Sheraton Hotel in Zagreb, as well as the Sheraton Dubronik Riviera, Le Méridien, Lav, Split and the AC by Marriott Hotel, Split, scheduled for 2023.
